Wall Art and Hats by West Perro

I met Jimmy, the man behind the hats, years ago at the Renegade Craft Fair in San Francisco. Even before COVID, the hoards of people at Fort Mason gave me anxiety, so when I entered the West Perro booth and a calmness flooded over me, I didn’t want to leave. I asked Jimmy if I could sit on his little wood stool in the corner to feel a bit of serenity before braving the crowds again. Jimmy has a gift for creating calm spaces and as cheesy as this is going to sound, it’s true-I feel the calm when I wear my hat. The brim is just big enough for the perfect shading and I feel elegant and country (don’t ask me how it’s possible, ask Jimmy). The hand made beads bring a subtle beauty and spirit to the hats that I adore. The wall hangings are made with minimalism and attention to detail. I can stare at them and not get bored-the true test for me to be able to hang art on my wall.

We have a great dane who requires hours of walks. The Sacramento sun can be cruel and I’d been looking for a hat to help keep me shaded from the morning and afternoon rays. I like having one favorite thing and this is my favorite hat. Once I find a favorite, I use it everywhere, for everything. These hats a beautiful, but they’re also work horses and I can’t imagine a day when I’ll need to replace it; it’s going to live forever. Also, he has wee-little hats for babys!
