Nobu Hotel in Chicago, Illinois
We stayed a night the Nobu Chicago for my birthday. (We had scheduled to stay at a different boutique hotel in the area, but on the way, found out they didn’t allow kids.) It was a busy weekend and luckily, Nobu had a room available for us. We were received with hot tea taster and a warm towel (I’m such a sucker for warm towels!). The front desk was welcoming and warm and the lobby is so pretty. The walls have to be 30 feet tall and are adorned with soft, natural plaster. Our room was spacious but the star of the stay was the wooden soaking tub. That’s all I wanted for my birthday was a long, hot, relaxing bath. It was perfect. And the beds and pillows were luxurious. I’m so glad the other hotel was too exclusive for us.

We were able to get reservations for dinner downstairs at the Japanese restaurant. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced customer service quite like this. Our server was incredible. I chose plant based on my birthday and sweetheart chose fish. We were offered an option where we could pay a specific amount and the chef would choose our dishes. At a good restaurant, always trust the chef. So we opted for $80 each not including drinks (and the drinks-oh the drinks! so good!). Each fish option served had a mirrored plant based option. The treatments were so similar, it was hard to tell them apart. Incredibly creative, flavorful and memorable. The tofu mimicked the salmon and the eggplant couldn’t have been closer to the texture of a perfectly cooked scallop (I’m still a little speculative it was scallops I ate). Incredible!
