Kingfish Inn Restaurant on Orcas Island, Washington

Typically, a reservation at Kingfish is hard to come by on a moment’s notice. However, if you have time on your hands and want to throw caution to the wind. And say, have a three year old who might or might not be into eating out that night, it’s worth stopping in to see if there’s a free table. If there is, a friendly/sassy server (my favorite kind) will take care of you and quite possibly recommend the best Pinot Noir in existence. You can be prepared to have your senses delighted by each course. The owner/chef might even stop by your table to make sure everything was just right. It’s all part of the magical experience that is Orcas Island.

A review of Kingfish wouldn’t be complete without a couple words about where it’s located-Orcas Island. Off Washington state, north of Seattle and nestled in the heart of the Salish Sea, rest a handful of islands known as the San Juan Islands. I’ve only visited Orcas Island and I can’t stay away. It’s something out of a grown-up’s fairy-tale. Many eateries source locally grown food, there’s a farm stand every half mile or so along the seven mile stretch of road, and a bakery with quiche that will make your heart sing. Each time I’m there, I want to stay forever.
