Mabo in Salt Lake City, Utah

The in-person shop is now closed and I can’t fully accept it enough to take down this post. The online store continues and is alive and well and so very lovely. I lived in Salt Lake City, Utah once. Okay, more than once. It wasn’t cool back then. I don’t know what happened but some sort of cosmic creative energy exploded there and now it’s got incredible restaurants, bars, photographers and a little shop called Mabo. My family lives near Salt Lake now and every time I go for a visit, I schedule some alone time for an afternoon to visit Mabo.

The first time I visited Mabo, I got a linen apron (I’m not sure what the brand was or if it ever had a tag) and a jumper by OZMA. Since, I’ve been able to add a Lauren Manoogian cardigan, Jesse Kamm jeans, and an Ichi t-shirt to my wardrobe, buy greeting cards for family and friends, get kids clothing for our little one (they’ve got a full line), candles, and anything else I can pack in a bag to return home with. I love this shop. I never have to worry about what the clothes are made with or if they’re sourced responsibly or ethically. And to be clear, these clothes are an investment but, in my closet, instead of many cardigans, I have only one. Instead of dozens of pairs of jeans, I have only two. Instead of a dozen jumpers, I have only three and instead of a stack of white t-shirts, I have only three. When you subscribe to less is more, you can spend more money on quality items that can be worn over and over again for years and save money in the process. Each time I put on the clothes I sourced from Mabo, I feel inspired. I still love them and believe I always will.
