The Original Queen Anne Goose Down Pillow with Ethical Down
Replacing synthetic with natural has a snowball effect. Once you feel the natural fibers against your skin, having plastic materials anywhere becomes intolerable. I had a tempurpedic pillow and enjoyed the way it gave my neck stability. Realizing I had to let it go made me nervous. After a particularly grueling work weekend where we got very little sleep, we got to stay at the Four Seasons in Seattle (which will get it’s own recommendation shortly). And, oh my goodness, the pillows. I laid down on the bed and slept like I’d never slept before and then slept some more. This was the pillow experience I’d been searching for. After hours of looking online I finally found them. Made in the US out of ethically sourced down-the Original Queen Anne Goose Down Pillow. They are incredible. I bought a medium and soft fill hoping the medium would be comfortable for me and our son could use the soft and that’s exactly what’s happening now. The support these pillows offer whilst still being incredibly soft is out of this world.
For all vegans (and anyone else aware of the meat industry), I realize the term “ethically sourced” is ludicrous when it comes to using animals. There isn’t anything ethical about using animals. The term is meant to distinguish between the practices of harvesting feathers from birds raised for the meat industry (slaughtering first and plucking after) verses the atrocities of live-plucking which can happen to the same animal over and over again in an animal’s life (up to 16 times for some geese) before they are slaughtered for meat.
I’d like to be fully plant based and vegan in all aspects of my life and am working towards this goal. Each little step towards do no harm is a powerful one. I believe this company is helping the process evolve in countries where birds are a primary food source. HERE is a link to understand more about ethical practices, standards and certifications for sourcing feathers and down. As we all take strides toward betterment, I hope to see more plant based options for pillows so we don’t have to make the choice between using synthetic materials which can be harmful to ourselves and the planet and animal products which are harmful to animals.
